What Windows Now is, and how the archive was restored
An honest account of this site: what we publish, where the historical content comes from, and how we credit — and answer to — the people who originally wrote it.
What this site is
Windows Now is an independent Windows help site. It does two things. First, it publishes clear, practical how-to guides for Windows. Second, it is the steward of a faithfully restored archive of the original windows-now.com — a multi-author Windows enthusiast community blog that ran from roughly 2003 to 2010, covering Windows Vista, Windows Media Center, Windows Home Server, Windows Mobile and the developer world of WPF, Avalon and Silverlight.
When the original domain lapsed, that content disappeared from the live web. We rebuilt the site on the same domain and put the real posts back where they used to live, so the many links pointing at them from forums, documentation and other blogs resolve again instead of dying.
How the restoration works
- Real content, from public archives. Restored posts are recovered from public web archives (chiefly the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine). We reproduce the original text faithfully — we do not rewrite it, and we do not invent anything to fill it out.
- Original author and date, always credited. Every restored post names the person who wrote it and the date it was first published, and carries a visible banner marking it as a restored historical post.
- Same address. Posts keep their original
.aspxURLs so existing links keep working. - Clearly separated modern notes. Where a topic has a present-day answer, we may add an "Editor's note" that is visibly distinct from the original text. The history is never quietly edited.
- What we never do. We never attach a living author's name to words they did not write, never fabricate facts, dates, or quotes, and never present archived content as newly authored.

If you are an original windows-now.com author and you would like a post credited differently, amended, or removed, we will act on your request. The same goes for anyone who spots a factual or attribution error.
