Url Guideline - Avoid "www."

I stumbled on http://no-www.org this morning.

"Succinctly, use of the www subdomain is redundant and time consuming to communicate. The internet, media, and society are all better off without it."

This will be just one piece of my Url Manifesto.

Or does that site go too far? I want "www." to be omitted in all mentions of URLs, I don't want to see it in the address bar. But if I type www., it is ok to still see it?

I agree that we no long need to list www in front of web sites, i.e. http://microsoft.com or even just microsoft.com is enough. However, the www version of the URL still has to work so I can do Start->Run: www.microsoft.com [Enter].
