Windows Mobile Confusion

First, we were told that Windows Mobile 7 would succeed Windows Mobile 6. Then, Ballmer talked last week about Windows Mobile 6.5. Then today, at TechEd EMEA, Microsoft announced Internet Explorer Mobile 6, and released emulator images for Windows Mobile 6.1.4.

Someone on the Windows Moblie team want to apply some friggin clarity here? What gives?

I have to agree. Then you find out that the new IE won't be available via download, you have to buy a new phone to get it. The lack of download options was given by one of the developers was that in order to enjoy the "rich experience" of IE on the phone it requires the horsepower of newer phones. Balony! Isn't it funny how the same "rich experience" is currently enjoyed by thousands of Opera Mini users does not require new phone horsepower, or the purchase of a new phone to get it.

This smacks of an agreement between Microsoft and the various phone companies selling Windows Mobile phones to require a new phone purchase for almost anything Microsoft develops thats new for their phones. The Mini Opera team must be drunk with celebration right now!
