PointUI Home: First Impressions

The people at PointUI have put their software up about 12 hours early. I've spent the last 30 minutes playing with it, and WOW, I'm very impressed. I'll have a full-blown video review in the next day or so (I'm waiting for my new HD video camera to be delivered). But I've fallen in love with my new Smartphone all over again.

if you're a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 users, you HAVE to download this and check it out. I think a small group of anonymous developers just gave Microsoft a huge run for their money.

They've made great use of the hardware. However, after a few hours of trying to do my normal stuff, I had to go back to just the standard HTC home screen. For me it just took way too many clicks to do the things I do a hundred times a day. Many of the UI concepts that they are using are good. However, they've offset it by making many things rather convoluted.

The tabbed interface of the HTC home plugin, plus the mapping of the hardware buttons has placed over 90% of my daily tasks within 1-2 taps from anywhere. I couldn't achieve anywhere near that level of efficiency running PointUI.

  • I love it too :)

But I think you mean they just gave MS a boost, don't you? It's a free program that requires Windows Mobile - if anything, it'll help drive MS' sales upward; not really competing per-say.
